About Craig
I am an aspiring fantasy author with a “day job” teaching historical swordplay. I used to write material for tabletop role-playing games as a freelancer, and I’ve worked a wide variety of other jobs. In my late forties, I was diagnosed with ADHD and everything else about my life started making sense.
Author: I am currently querying a novel set in an alternate version of our middle ages. The differences between our history and the world of my novel are numerous and diverse, but many patterns remain the same. A young satyr woman and a warrior monk from the brotherhood of the seven-fold labyrinth get caught up in political turmoil in the eastern capital, Heraklionople, and try to unravel the secrets of Phoenician fire.
I am currently writing a fantasy heist novel with noir vibes. When the gods sleep, the only way these five criminals can get any justice is to steal it.
Swordplay Instructor: I am the founder, head instructor and curriculum director at Ottawa Swordplay. I research and teach my interpretation of a historical combat system developed by the German swordmaster Johannes Liechtenauer in the late 14th/early 15th century. I started training in 1998 and have been teaching Swordplay in Ottawa since 2000.
Game Designer: My first published RPG adventure, Earth Tones, was in Dungeon Magazine #76 in 1999 (although I wrote it at the end of 1997). I have written material published by Wizards of the Coast, Paizo Publishing, Goodman Games, Sinister Adventures, and Ulisses North America. I also wrote background lore for the Dark Alliance computer game by Tuque Studios.
ADHD: After most of a lifetime of not living up to my potential, I was diagnosed with ADHD. This came as a surprise since I often impressed people with how focused I was. I’ve been getting proper treatment (meds and therapy), and my life has improved dramatically. I’m still working on it.
